  1. Nature - Virtual Serengeti

  3. This file contains system requirements, installation instructions, and 
  4. tips to help you enjoy the CD-ROM. 
  5.  
  6. Please note that this CD-ROM will only run on PowerPC Apple Computers. It will not run on older Macs, such as the Quadra or any that are based on the 68K Motorola Processor.
  7. Your computer needs to meet the following minimum specifications to run the program properly:

  9. * 120 MHz PowerPC or faster processor
  10. *  16 MB of RAM, 8 MB of available RAM
  11. *  640 x 480 display capable of displaying thousands of colors (16-bit)
  12. *  Mac OS version 7.1 or higher
  13. *  4X CD-ROM drive or faster
  14. *  10 mb Free Space on Hard Drive
  15.

  17. This program requires QuickTime 3.0.2 software to run. If you get a message that Quicktime is not installed, you can install the software yourself from the "Install QuickTime 3.0.2" folder on the CD-ROM.

  22. INSTALLATION

  24. After inserting the CD-ROM into the drive, click on the "* Install Nature" icon to begin the installation. Follow the instructions for the installation.

  27. TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
  28.  
  29. Picture:
  30. The program runs best when your monitor is set to display in thousands of colors (16-bit). If your system is set to display millions of colors, we strongly recommend that you reset your display to thousands of colors to improve performance.

  32. Changing your display
  33. Open up your "Monitors and Sound" control panel. Change the "color depth" option to "thousands".
  34.  
  35. Sound:
  36. If you are not getting sound from your speakers or headphones, check the 
  37. following: Are all cables properly connected? 
  38.  
  39. If you hear sound but it is erratic or garbled, you should reduce the amount of virtual memory used by your computer or even turn off virtual memory.

  41. You can adjust the volume of the game using the keyboard. First, click anywhere outside of the exploration viewing area. Then use the number keys 0-9 to adjust the sound. If this does not work, try navigating to the Science Journal or Field Guide before adjusting volume. Note: Do not use the keypad numbers.

  43. Memory
  44. If you are getting an error message stating that you are out of memory when attempting to launch your web browser from the computer in the Camp Mara tent, if the system crashes, or if performance is sluggish, your memory resources are probably stretched to capacity. Try closing all other applications before starting this program.  If this doesn't work, you may 
  45. need to purchase additional memory.

  47. Saved games
  48. You can delete your saved games by finding the "Nature" folder on your hard drive and opening the "Games" folder. Then, just drag the games you want to delete into the Trash.
